After graduating from Roanoke College, Salem, Va. (B.S. in Chemistry) in 1970, he spent four years on active duty with the U.S. Army. He graduated from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine, N.Y.C. (D.P.M., cum laude) in 1978, and received two years of intensive surgical training at Lindell Hospital, City Hospitals 1 and 2, and the Veterans Administration Hospital in St. Louis, MO. This residency also involved graduate studies at St. Louis University and Washington University’s Barnes Hospital.
